Who can buy a card?

Anyone can. There are no age or country restrictions.

Where can I buy a card?

You can purchase through us here via PayPal. You can also purchase the card at various discounters in cities around the world as we grow. These discounters will be highlighted at the top of the first page of the discounters list for the city they represent.

Where can I use this card?

It is valid at any discounter represented on the pages listed on our site. The super deals they have kindly offered will be honoured when you produce your card. Keep an eye on the deals as they can be changed by the business at any time.

Who can use this card?

Only the person who purchased the card. Your name will appear on the card and you may be asked to produce secondary identification to prove you are that savvy traveller who opted to pick up a Backpacker Bucks card. If you and three buddies want to go rafting and only you were smart enough to grab a card then only you will get the sweetheart deal. In some cases you might be able to purchase the card and get the deal if the discounter is a retailer of the card.

How long is the card valid for?

It is good for one whole year from the date of purchase! It will have an expiry date on it as well as your name.

What happens if I loose my card?

Sorry but you will have to purchase a card again. Heck, one whale watching tour and the card paid for it's self plus you helped some kids out. The good news is that the date will be new and you will get a whole year out of the deal.

Is the card transferable or have a cash value?

No and no. We need to sell these cards to raise funds for orphans and keep this operation running. I hope you all understand.

How much money from the sale of each card goes to those orphans so dear to us?

For the first year until we can recoup some of the start up costs we will be putting 55% of all profits towards Orphfund. The following year we will bump up the percentage and hope to expand as we help other orphanages around the world. Our goal is to raise the bar every year and get those funds working where they are needed most.

Who can place a discount ad on this site?

Any business willing to offer a special deal for Backpacker Bucks card holders. We try to keep these ads travel related or something a traveller would want or need. These are vast. For example; bookstores, cafés, campgrounds, transportation, tours, car rentals, nightclubs, hostels, bike rentals, retail stores, hotels even tattoo parlours! There are many more but you got the idea.

Are the discount ads free?

Yes! It is and always will be free to place an ad. We need businesses to step up and offer any discount they can afford. Travellers will be looking to save a few dollars here and there along their journey and will be more than happy to take your business up on your offer.

How can I place a free ad?

If you go to the place a free ad page, you will find a simple to use form that will allow you to place an ad and offer a special discount. You can ad logos, pictures, contact information and even a YouTube link.

Can I make changes to the ad?

Yes. At any time you can change the special offer, contact information, website link, photos or even take the ad down. But why would you?

Does the ad expire?

No. The ad will appear until the discounter makes changes to the ad, removes the ad or we remove the ad for reasons listed below.

Are there restrictions for the ads?

Yes. We will not allow ads with spam, dishonourable discounts, non existent places, profanity, sexual content or advertisers that we have received complaints about. In short, any ad we feel is not in the spirit of the Backpacker Bucks project will be removed and blacklisted.

Do the ads get regulated?

Yes. We will be monitoring them constantly.

Who can sell Backpacker Bucks cards?

Any reputable business offering a discount can offer to sell the cards. We will also be looking for travel agencies in the future. After some research we found that we need to offer some incentive to those who wish to offer the super discount cards.

• Five dollars per card sold
• Added traffic due to sales of cards
• Poster and stickers from Backpacker Bucks
• Assurance of a limited number of sellers per area
• Free first shipment of Backpacker Bucks cards to sell
• The feeling of doing the right thing and helping kids in need

Banner Advertising

What about those crazy banner ads?

As with cards these ads increase revenue for orphans. We will keep them limited, low cost and travel related always. We promise!

Who are we helping?

We are starting with a great backpacker friendly organisation called Orphfund. www.orphfund.org As we increase revenue we will expand to other orphanages around the world. We wish to keep them backpacker friendly so you could pop in on your travels and help out the orphanage.
